About Us

La Bastilla Coffee Estates, Corp, owns two coffee farms in Nicaragua which produce very fine, gourmet coffee.

The strategic purpose of La Bastilla Coffee Estates is:

  • Sales and marketing of the Coffee Estates, the fine coffee from its two plantations. To give value to our coffee to benefit our partners and coffee roasting clients.
  • Financing the capital for the work and operations of our plantations
  • Managing operations from planting the seed to the export container, monitoring for good quality and consistency in all stages of business.
  • Cooperating with la Fundación de Educación y Emprendedurismo Rural (FEER – the Foundation for Rural Education and Entrepreneurship) which manages a technical school at La Bastilla Farm, to promote quality education for youngsters at the farm and in the region.

The firm is managed by Markus Fischer, who has more than 25 years of experience in different parts of the coffee world.

Agronomist, Martin Montero, who has a long history of managing plantations and coffee processing plants, is in charge of the coffee production operations.

Approximately 50 permanent and up to 500 temporary employees work at the farms during the harvest season.

The production of special, certified ( Rainforest Alliance ) coffee nowadays is around 3,500 to 4,000 sacks of 69 kgs. It is expected that with the coffee plantation renovation programme, the quantity will reach 7,500 sacks within five or so years.
